About this product
Movement and glare, along a line.
Holographic tape strung with a little slack so the wind can twist it. It needs air, light and re-siting, and we would rather say so.
Holographic reflective tape, strung along a line so it twists and flashes in the wind.
Where the hanging discs cover a point, tape covers a run. On a row of soft fruit, a vegetable bed, a fence line or a boat, that shape is usually the more useful one.
It needs wind and daylight to do anything, and it needs re-siting every week or two before birds stop noticing it.
Sold as a single roll at ฿600, three rolls at ฿1,500 or ten rolls at ฿4,000. Delivery is free on all three.
Nothing to power, nothing to fix, and quiet, which matters if a sound device would upset the neighbours.
The mechanism is movement and glare rather than noise or smell, so the two things that decide whether it works are exposure and attention. Strung tight in a sheltered corner it does nothing; strung with a little slack where the wind gets it, it twists constantly and throws light in every direction.
Attention means moving it. Every bird species we deal with habituates to a fixed stimulus. Re-site the runs every week or two, change the height, add a run somewhere new, and the effect lasts a season instead of a fortnight.
It is genuinely popular with growers, and it is worth being clear about why: it is cheap enough to run across a whole block and quick enough to move. That is a different argument from it being more effective than a net, which it is not.
Where a crop actually has to be protected rather than made slightly less attractive, netting over it is the honest recommendation. Tape buys you a season with attention.
Still deciding?
Not sure yet? That is fine.
You can change your mind. Send any item back within 15 days of delivery, uncut, unused and in its original packaging, for an exchange or a full refund of the product price.
If it turns up faulty, damaged or not as described, that is on us. We pay the return postage, and you can have a replacement or your money back. Read the full detail on our refunds and returns page, or ask us anything before you order.
We are not certain, and we would rather say so. The product code says 100 m and the listing copy says 90 m. We have asked the supplier.
Is that not something you should know?
It is, and we are chasing it. Publishing a confident number we cannot stand behind would be worse than admitting the gap.
What are the three pack sizes?
One roll at ฿600, three rolls at ฿1,500 and ten rolls at ฿4,000. Delivery is free on all of them.
Are the packs cheaper per roll?
Yes. ฿600 for one, ฿500 each in the three pack, ฿400 each in the ten pack.
Tape or discs?
Tape covers a line, discs cover a point. A row of soft fruit wants tape; a single tree wants discs.
How do I hang it?
Tie, tape or staple at both ends, with a little slack so it can twist. Tight tape cannot twist and twisting is most of the effect.
Does it need wind?
Yes, and daylight. In a sheltered corner on a dull day it does nothing.
How often do I move it?
Every week or two. Change the height and the line. Birds habituate to anything fixed.
Does it work on pigeons?
Less well than on smaller birds, and a pigeon on a ledge is a spike job rather than a tape job.
Will it protect my fruit?
It helps during the weeks that matter, if you move it. If the crop genuinely has to be protected, netting over a frame is the answer.
Is it noisy?
It rustles and clatters a little in strong wind. Quieter than any sound device and worth thinking about if it is right outside a bedroom window.
Can I use it on a boat?
Yes, and boats suit it: plenty of wind, plenty of light and nothing to fix a spike to.
Do farmers use it?
It is popular with growers because it is cheap enough to run across a block and quick to move. We do not claim any agency endorsement, which the old listing did without evidence.
Will it deter other animals?
It is sold as a bird deterrent. We would not claim more than that.
Does it fade?
The reflective film dulls with weathering over a season or two. A dull length is a length that has stopped working.
Can I cut it?
Yes, with scissors, to whatever run length you need.
Will it harm birds?
No. There is nothing to touch and nothing to catch on, as long as it is strung as a line rather than left in a tangle.
Can I leave it up all year?
You can, and the birds will stop noticing. Taking it down between crops makes it work better when it goes back up.
Does it work at night?
No. It needs light.
How much do I need for a 20 metre row?
One roll covers a long run whichever of the two lengths is right. For several rows moved about, the three pack is the sensible start.
Will it stop birds on my balcony rail?
It may make the rail less attractive. If they are settling there consistently, spikes are the product that actually removes the perch.
What is the difference between this and cheap plastic ribbon?
This is a holographic reflective film rather than plain coloured plastic, so it throws light rather than just flapping.
How much is delivery and how long does it take?
Delivery is free on every order, anywhere in Thailand. Allow up to 7 working days for delivery after dispatch within 2 working days. A tracking number is emailed as soon as it ships.
Which payment methods do you take?
Card and PayPal. Both go through the checkout on this site and neither of us ever sees your card details.
Can I change my mind after ordering?
Yes. You can send it back within 15 days of delivery for an exchange or a full refund of the product price, as long as it is uncut, unused and in its original packaging.
What if the order arrives damaged or faulty?
Tell us and we will replace it or refund it. That is separate from changing your mind: a faulty or misdescribed item is always put right at no cost to you.
How do I track my parcel?
The tracking number is in your dispatch email, and there is a tracking page on this site. If the number has not moved for a few days, email us and we will chase it.
Do you sell to trade and in bulk?
Yes. There is a wholesale page on this site with a quote form on it. Tell us the run length or the quantity and we will price it.
Are the prices shown with tax included?
Yes. The price you see is the price you pay, in Thai baht, and it already includes 7% VAT. Delivery is free, so nothing is added at the checkout.
How do I get hold of a person?
Email theteam@birdspikes.asia, or call or message +66 92 713 8443, which also takes WhatsApp and LINE. We are an online supplier with no shop counter, which is a large part of why the prices are what they are.
The complete guide
Hanging scare tape so it earns its keep
4Bird Spikes Company
Tape or discs?
We sell both and they suit different shapes of problem.
Discs cover a point. One tree, one corner of a balcony, one mast.
Tape covers a line. A row of raspberries, a run of fence, the length of a pergola, the
guard rail of a boat. If what you are protecting is long and thin, tape is the better shape
and it is usually cheaper per metre covered.
Hanging it so it works
Two things matter and both are easy to get wrong.
Leave a little slack. Tape pulled drum tight cannot twist, and twisting is most of the
effect. A gentle catenary between two points is what you want.
Put it where the wind is. Along the open side of a row, above the crop rather than down
in it, across a gap rather than against a wall. A sheltered run does nothing at all.
Tie, tape or staple at both ends. There is nothing to fix and nothing to power.
Moving it
Every week or two. Different height, different line, an extra run somewhere new. This is the
step people skip and it is the difference between a season of usefulness and a fortnight.
It is also why the three and ten roll packs exist: enough tape to run several lines and swap
them about rather than one line left up until the birds ignore it.
What we are not claiming
The listing this page came from says the tape is endorsed by agricultural agencies. We have
no evidence of that and we have not repeated it.
We also cannot tell you the exact roll length with confidence. The product code says 100 m
and the listing copy says 90 m. We have asked the supplier and until they answer, we would
rather say we do not know than print a number.
Where tape is not the answer
Anywhere a crop genuinely has to be protected rather than made less attractive. That is a
net over a frame. Tape is a deterrent that needs attention; a net is a barrier that does
not.
Tell us the bird, the surface and roughly how long the run is, and we will tell you what suits it before you buy. Delivery is free anywhere in Thailand.
Bird Reflective Tape sold by Bird Spikes Company at birdspikes.asia, in Thailand.
Holographic reflective scare tape strung along a line so that it twists and flashes in the
wind, working by movement and glare and requiring both wind and daylight. Sold in three pack
sizes, which are MULTI-BUYS of one warehouse line rather than different goods: single roll THB
600, 3 rolls THB 1,500 (was THB 1,800), 10 rolls THB 4,000 (was THB 6,000). Fixed by tying,
taping or stapling at both ends with a little slack so it can twist; no power and no fixings.
Suited to rows and lines: rice and vegetable plots, fruit trees, fences, balconies, boats,
piers and orchards. It requires re-siting every week or two because birds habituate to a fixed
stimulus, and it is a seasonal campaign rather than a permanent installation; where a crop
must actually be protected, netting is the correct product. NOTE: the roll length is
uncertain, because the source listing says 90 m while the product code says 100 m; the
supplier has been asked and the store publishes neither as fact. The source listing's claim
that the tape is "endorsed by agricultural agencies" is unevidenced and is NOT repeated.
Delivery is free anywhere in Thailand and takes up to 7 working days in transit. Prices include 7% VAT.
